Access
Groups of channels — Public, Open or Private — that members join, hide or run from the menu, made from channels you already have or new ones.
Access turns sets of channels into groups members can join, hide or run from the menu. A group is a whole category, part of one, or channels outside any category, left exactly where they sit, with one role. Admins, and the members they trust, make and run them.

For Members
/menu › General › Access — the same list is on Community — shows one row per group you can see: its kind, your standing on it (Admin, Curator, Deputy or User) and one button. Each group is one of three kinds:
- Public — on for everyone. Hide takes its channels out of your channel list; Show brings them back.
- Open — let yourself in with Join, and leave any time.
- Private — by invitation: ask one of its Curators or Deputies.
One group can be the server's default, which every member can join without asking. Anyone can leave a group whenever they like, except its last Curator, who has to hand it on first.
Who Runs a Group
On a group's card, Members, Deputies and Curators each open a list of who holds that standing, with the right button beside each person.
- A Curator runs the group: adds and removes members, appoints Deputies, renames it, adds channels to it and posts feeds into it.
- A Deputy adds members, and can remove the ones they added.
- An admin is above both, and alone can add a Curator, delete a group, or make one the default from the list's Default row.
Making One
Admins, and members an admin has made a Curator, get New Group. An admin can make one from a whole category, from some channels, or from new ones; a Curator makes new ones — a category with a main chat and, if you like, a voice channel. You choose who gets in before anything is made, and when that changes Discord permissions the screen shows what will change and asks first. A step that fails removes what it made.
A group's Curator adds more from its Settings, with Add channels — a bot guide, game clips, a counting channel, or a channel where wild Pokémon appear. (The Pokémon adventure is free in every server.) Unticking a channel unbinds it, and deleting only ever reaches channels the bot created.
Who gets in. A group's Settings › Who gets in moves it between Open and Private in one press. Anything that shows channels to more people asks first, and only an admin makes a group Public or changes one that is.
For Admins
/menu › Other › Admin › Access holds two rows. Curator makes a member a Curator, sets how many groups they may run (3 unless you choose 1, 2 or no limit), or revokes it. Revoking passes every group they run to you, so nothing is orphaned and nothing is deleted. The Curators button on the list does the same for each person.
Link existing, on the list, brings in a section the server already has. Nothing in Discord changes: the bot records it — Public where everyone sees it, Private with the role that opens it, one row per role where two roles open it. Complete setup suggests the same groups from the server's own shape, and records nothing until you press Looks good.
The Unlock card is the other row, and it is off until you turn it on, because turning it on makes a channel. Asbern makes an #unlock-access channel at the top of the list (or uses one you pick) and posts one card there with every Public and Open group — Join on an Open group, Hide on a Public one. Whoever presses gets the answer privately, in their own Access list, where Leave and Show are; the card never changes for one person. It stays up and keeps itself in step when groups or their channels change; if someone deletes it, the console says so and Confirm posts it again. Turning it off deletes the card; the channel Asbern made stays until you press Delete on its own row and then Confirm — the one step that asks first.
Feeds and Counting
A Curator can post news, sports, streams or any site into the group's own channels from its Settings › Feeds — up to five in each group (see Feeds). Each Discord category can also have one counting game of its own (see Counting).
What it Costs
Nothing. Asbern is free: every feature on this page is included in every server, and no card is needed.
