Set up levelling
Turn chat and voice into levels and ranks — where the four settings are, which channels to exclude, and why you cannot type a number into anybody's level.
It already works
Levelling is on from the moment the bot joins. Members earn from messages and from time in voice, and the levels appear on their profile without anyone configuring anything.
So this page is about the four decisions that are yours, not about switching it on.
The four settings
Open /menu › Other › Admin › Leveling:
| row | what it decides |
|---|---|
| Boosters | A flat +10% for server boosters, on or off. Off by default |
| No-XP | A channel that earns no XP, no chat money and no voice money, and is left out of the stats — a bot-spam channel; or a role that earns no XP |
| Channel | Where level-up notices go, or nowhere |
| Rank | Whether the bot creates the rank roles and gives each member theirs |
⭐ "Rank" creates the roles and hands them out
Switching it on creates one role per rank and prestige — 32 in all, with no permissions — and gives every member the one for their level. A role that already has exactly that name is used instead of making a second, and if the bot is removed and added back it picks up the roles it made before.
⚠ Switching it off deletes the roles the bot made, which takes them off every member — that is why it warns you. A role the bot did not make is never deleted, only taken back off. Levels stay.
Three things it needs to work: the roles exist, there is room for them, and no other role that carries an icon sits above them. Discord shows the icon of a member's highest icon-bearing role, so anything above your rank roles hides them.
⚠ The booster bonus is fixed, and that is deliberate
+10%, boosters only, one switch. You cannot type a multiplier, set one per role, or set one per channel — and the reason is not simplicity.
Levelling feeds a leaderboard that is meant to mean the same thing in every server. A number an admin can set is a number no leaderboard can be trusted with, so the only modifier that survives is one every server gets identically or not at all.
⛔ For the same reason there is no control anywhere that edits a member's XP, level or money. It is refused at the point the bot starts, not by policy — a control that tried to declare it would stop the bot booting. If a member's level is wrong, the answer is the feature that earns it back, not a number typed in.
Who counts as a booster is asked of Discord, never of a role you configure — because a role an admin hands out is a role an admin could pay XP with.
Questions people actually ask
Does a no-XP channel still count for statistics? No. A no-XP channel earns no XP, no chat money and no voice money, and its messages and voice minutes are left out of your server's activity data. A no-XP role only stops XP: its members are still paid chat money and still counted.
Do boosters earn in a no-XP channel? No. Blocked is asked first and is absolute — the bonus is never computed there.
Can I import levels from another bot? No, and it is the one import deliberately barred. Statistics can be imported; levels and money cannot, because they move standings. See Import your StatBot history.
