Levelling and Rank Roles

Members earn XP for talking and for time in voice with other people. You decide which channels count and whether the bot gives members rank roles. Nobody decides anybody's number.

How XP Is Earned

• Messages — once a minute at most, so spam earns nothing extra.
• Voice — every minute with somebody else in the channel, unmuted.
• Battles and the economy add a little on top.

Levels map onto ranks, from Private up to Master General, and then Prestige. /menu › Profile › Rank shows the whole climb, and where your server hands out rank roles, you wear the one for your rank. See Achievements, Leaderboards and Daily.

What an Admin Can Set

Everything is on one screen: /menu › Other › Admin › Leveling.

• Boosters — members who boost your server earn a flat +10% XP. It is off until you switch it on, and there is no number to type.
• No-XP — a channel or a role that earns no XP, such as a bot-command channel. This is checked first and it is absolute: a no-XP channel pays nobody, boosters included. A no-XP channel also pays no chat or voice money, and its messages and voice minutes are not counted in the activity stats; a no-XP role stops XP only.
• Channel — where new ranks are announced. A level-up that earns no new rank posts nothing.
• Rank roles — whether the bot creates the rank roles and gives each member theirs.

Rank Roles

Switching Rank roles on creates one role for each rank, Private up to Master General, and for each Prestige — 32 in all, with no permissions — then gives every member the one for their level. If your server already has a role with exactly that name, the bot uses it instead of making a second.

• Switching Rank roles off deletes the roles the bot made, which takes them off every member. A role the bot did not make is never deleted, only taken back off. Levels stay, and still show in /menu.
• If the bot is removed and added back, it picks up the roles it made before.
• For a rank role to show an icon, Discord needs your server at boost level 2.
• The bot's own role has to sit above the rank roles, or Discord will not let it hand them out. See Getting Started.

The Booster Bonus

There is exactly one XP modifier: +10% for Discord server boosters. It is one switch, off by default, and it cannot be resized.

Who counts as a booster is asked of Discord, never of a role you choose — a role an admin hands out is a role an admin could pay XP with.

What You Cannot Do

• Change anybody's XP or level. Not an admin, not the server owner, not us. These numbers are compared between servers, and one somebody can type is one nobody can trust.
• Import levels from another bot. Only activity statistics can be imported — see Import Your StatBot History.
• Hand out roles as rewards. A role given as access is fine. A role given as a prize for levelling is progression dressed up as a role, and the editor for it was removed.

What it Costs

Nothing. Asbern is free: every feature on this page is included in every server, and no card is needed.
