Moderation Actions

Your staff act on a member from the admin console inside Discord, with a reason on record and no command to type. Every action taken here becomes a numbered case in that member's history.

Acting on a Member

/menu › Other › Admin › Moderation › Members holds the five verbs that act on one person. Each one asks for the member first, and the four that act on them take a reason to keep on record — only Warn needs one.

• Kick — removes them from the server. They can come back with a new invite.
• Ban — keeps them out, and can delete what they posted in the last 0 to 7 days (Discord's limit). It works on someone who has already left. Send them a DM tells them first, with the case number and a button to appeal it.
• Timeout — mutes them everywhere for 60 seconds, 5 or 10 minutes, an hour, a day, a week or a length you type, up to Discord's 28 days. They are told by DM, with a button to appeal it.
• Warn — records a warning, and can tell them by DM. It cannot be undone, and it counts towards a warning escalation only where one is set up (see Automod and Anti-Raid).
• History — every case against one member: warnings, timeouts, bans, kicks and voice bans, each with its number, who gave it, when and why. It shows ten by default, and up to 50.

Void, on a case in History, withdraws a case that should never have been filed. It stops counting and cannot be appealed, nothing is lifted in Discord, and it cannot be undone.

Who Can Be Acted On

The console refuses four things before it asks Discord: acting on yourself, on the bot, on the server's owner, and on anyone whose highest role sits at or above the bot's own. For the last one, move the bot's role higher in Discord's role list and try again. A warning is the exception for the owner and for role order: it is a note on record, not a change in Discord.

Server-Wide Tools

/menu › Other › Admin › Moderation › Server holds the tools that act on the whole server.

• Lockdown — stops @everyone posting anywhere, or only in one category, and writes down what each channel was set to first. While a lockdown is on record, an Unlock row appears beside it and puts every channel back to exactly what it was, not simply open.
• Purge — removes recent messages in one channel: everything, or only one member's, bots and webhooks, messages with a link, messages with a file or image, messages matching some text, or messages older than a number of days. It removes 50 by default and up to 1,000. Pinned messages and messages older than 14 days stay unless you include them; older ones then go one at a time, at most 25 a run.
• Voice ban — keeps one member out of every voice channel for an hour, a day, 7 days or until lifted. It takes one press: choose the member and the length and it applies, with no preview to confirm. If they join voice, the bot disconnects them, which needs the bot to have Move Members. Each voice ban still in force is listed with Lift beside it, and it is a case they can appeal.

The other two rows on that screen, Logging and Log events, are the Moderation Log.

What it Costs

Nothing. Asbern is free: every feature on this page is included in every server, and no card is needed.
